Lenovo has unveiled the revolutionary Yoga Solar PC, a concept laptop that harnesses solar energy to power its operations. Showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, this innovative device integrates high-efficiency solar panels directly into its design, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable computing.
Harnessing Solar Energy for Computing
The Yoga Solar PC features a solar panel integrated into its lid, allowing it to convert sunlight into usable energy. Utilising Back Contact Cell technology, the design relocates mounting brackets and gridlines to the rear of the solar cells, maximising the active absorption area. This configuration achieves a remarkable solar energy conversion rate of over 24%, positioning it among the industry’s most efficient photovoltaic implementations.
To optimise energy capture, Lenovo has incorporated a Dynamic Solar Tracking system. This mechanism continuously monitors the current and voltage of the solar panel, adjusting the charger’s settings in real-time to ensure maximum efficiency regardless of light intensity. Notably, just 20 minutes of direct sunlight exposure can generate sufficient power for approximately one hour of video playback.

Design and Specifications
Despite its advanced solar capabilities, the Yoga Solar PC maintains a sleek and portable form factor. Measuring 15mm in thickness and weighing 1.22kg, it aligns with the dimensions of Lenovo’s Yoga ultrabook series. The laptop is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra processor, up to 32GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a 14-inch OLED display. For conventional charging needs, it includes three USB-C ports.
A Step Towards Eco-Friendly Computing
Lenovo’s Yoga Solar PC concept represents a forward-thinking approach to reducing reliance on traditional power sources. By integrating solar charging capabilities directly into the laptop, users can potentially extend battery life without access to electrical outlets, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. While the Yoga Solar PC remains a proof of concept, it signals a promising direction for future laptop designs that prioritise environmental considerations.
