Fairphone Expands Into The US
Fairphone has officially brought its repairable and sustainably built Android smartphone, the Fairphone Gen 6+, to the US, giving American consumers a new alternative to traditional smartphone models.
The Dutch technology company has built its reputation around creating devices designed to last, with repairability and responsible sourcing playing a central role in its approach.
The US launch represents an important expansion for the brand, which has been selling smartphones in Europe for more than a decade.
Designed To Be Repaired
One of the Fairphone Gen 6+’s defining features is its modular design. The smartphone contains 12 replaceable components, allowing users to repair parts themselves rather than automatically replacing the entire device.
Among the components that can be replaced are the screen, USB C port and battery. Fairphone also supplies a screwdriver with the phone, supporting its focus on making repairs more accessible.
The device has received a 10 out of 10 repairability score from iFixit and comes with a five year warranty, while software updates are planned through 2033.
A Smartphone Built For Longer
The Gen 6+ also brings updated hardware to Fairphone’s repairable smartphone range. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and 12GB of RAM, providing a performance upgrade while retaining the company’s modular approach.
The phone is available in the US for $650 through Fairphone and Amazon, with compatibility for T Mobile and AT&T networks.
Fairphone also offers a version running Murena’s de Googled /e/OS for consumers looking for an alternative approach to smartphone software.
Sustainability At The Centre
Beyond repairability, Fairphone has placed responsible sourcing at the heart of its manufacturing approach.
More than 50 per cent of the Gen 6+’s materials are fair trade or recycled, according to the company. Fairphone also supports living wages within its supply chain and says its devices are assembled using renewable energy.
The company is a Certified B Corp and has received a Platinum EcoVadis rating, reflecting its wider focus on environmental and social responsibility.
A Growing Alternative
Fairphone’s expansion comes as the company reports strong momentum. Smartphone shipments increased by 74 per cent during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, while the company says 80 per cent of Gen 6 buyers were new to the brand.
The company is now looking to reach a more mainstream audience, bringing its approach to repairable technology to consumers who may be increasingly interested in keeping devices for longer.
The US launch of the Fairphone Gen 6+ could therefore represent more than another smartphone entering the market. It highlights a growing conversation around whether future technology should be designed around frequent upgrades or longer lifespans, with repairability becoming an increasingly important part of the consumer electronics landscape.
