@irobot has unveiled the Roomba Duo, introducing a @irobot has unveiled the Roomba Duo, introducing a new dual-unit approach to automated floor care. The system combines a powerful main robot with an ultra-slim companion unit, allowing the two to work together across different areas of the home.

The main robot is designed to vacuum and steam-mop larger floor areas, with a 60mm PowerSpin Max Roller Mop applying 46N of downward pressure for deeper cleaning. Steam helps loosen dried-on dirt, while the continuously cleaned roller tackles spills and grime. A hot-air drying system then helps reduce moisture left on hard floors.

The companion robot is based on iRobot’s Roomba Plus 575 Combo and is designed to reach spaces the larger unit cannot. At just 8.35cm tall, it can move beneath low furniture and into tighter areas, while its extending mop pad and edge-cleaning brush target corners, walls and skirting boards.

The two robots share a home map through the Roomba Home App and use AI, LiDAR and PrecisionVision technology to navigate rooms and identify obstacles. The main robot can also identify larger areas of dirt and debris for more targeted cleaning.

Both units work with a shared AutoWash dock, which washes and dries the mops, manages wastewater and empties collected dust, reducing the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba Duo is being demonstrated as a prototype, offering a glimpse at how robotic cleaning could evolve from a single all-purpose machine into a coordinated system of specialised robots.
